Emerging Technology: Weblogging
What is a weblog and how can it change the ways we communicate? This session will provide an overview of how weblogs differ from traditional website technology and introduce new syndication tools that enable and empower your exploration of the wonderful world of weblogs . There will be a hands-on session where attendees will create their own weblog using a popular weblogging tool.

Emerging Technology: Wikis
What is a Wiki and how can it be used as a collaboration tool in education? According to Wikipedia a wiki is defined as follows: "A Wiki or wiki (pronounced "wicky", "weekee" or "veekee") is a website (or other hypertext documents collection) allowing users to add content, as on an Internet forum, but also allows anyone to edit the content. "Wiki" also refers to the collaborative software used to create such a website." We will look at Wikis as tools both inside and outside of the classroom. We will look at the greatest source of information made available on a Wiki, Wikipedia, Wikipedia is a free-content encyclopedia that anyone can edit. We will discuss the potential benefits and pitfalls of using Wikis. We will discuss what is a Wiki community and how it is managed.

Introduction to Databases using Filemaker Pro 7
This class is an introduction to the principles of databases with a secondary emphasis on using Filemaker. What makes a database different from a spreadsheet? How can databases be used to manage mailing lists and other records? Participants will see what the key factors of database theory and practices are and learn skills related to using and managing a database. The presenter has experience using Filemaker databases for management of mailing and contact lists, equipment inventories, service records as well as trouble ticketing. This is the first in a series of database sessions.

Adobe In-Design I: An Introduction to Desktop Publishing using Adobe InDesign
This class is an introduction to the principles of desktop publishing (DTP) with a secondary emphasis on using Adobe InDesign. Participants will see what the key factors of DTP theory and practices are and learn skills related to the publication of newsletters, flyers, and other printed materials. The presenter has experience as an interior designer and layout editor for a book that has recently been published by Prentice Hall. This is the first in a series of desktop publishing sessions.

Adobe In-Design II: Working with and using In-Design
Adobe InDesign is a flexible desktop publishing program available for both PC and Macintosh Computers. This session assumes a basic knowledge of desktop publishing principles and some familiarity with the palette interface common to Adobe applications. Participants will focus more on the InDesign user interface. We will produce a document in InDesign and become a more powerful user of this wonderful tool. This is the second in a series of desktop publishing sessions. Attendance at the prior session is not necessary, but some basic knowledge of what desktop publishing would be helpful.

Adobe In-Design III: Desktop Publishing: Newsletter Production Workshop
Newsletter concepts and production

This workshop focuses on newsletter production using Adobe InDesign. The session will cover working with type fonts, tables, pictures and images. It will be "hands on" and will cover collecting for output, service bureaus PDF and workflow. This is an intermediate level workshop and will require basic knowledge of InDesign or a similar program such as Quark or PageMaker. This is the third in a series of desktop publishing sessions. Participants will be expected to have either attended the previous session or be familiar with a desktop publishing program.
